Levi’s® back pocket project

The Levi’s® back pocket project has already proven to be a tremendous success in Belgium, but the Dutch counterpart is now entering its final stage and is about to cause an even bigger buzz!

Levi's® has invited artists from the most diverse disciplines –but all breathing the spirit of the brand- to add their personal touch to the classic back pocket, resulting in precious little works of art by artists like lingerie-designer Marlies Dekkers, TV-host and actress Sophie Hilbrand, fashion designers Daryl van Wouw and Bas Kosters, visual artist Ottograph, band members from Voicst, Direct and Moke, and ‘must see’ underground artists. From January 29 the pockets will be on display at CoffeeCompany, 153 Van Woustraat, Amsterdam. From February 14 they will pop up in other CoffeeCompany shops all over the city. Last chance to see them: Levi’s® Store Kalvertoren, from February 27 until March 31.

Of course you can also check out the artful pockets on this very site. And while you are at it, you can bid on your favorite back pocket. Because it was made by your idol, because one day it will be a collectable, or just because you like it… It doesn’t matter. The Aids Fonds will be grateful, since they can surely use the proceeds of this internet auction in their fight against AIDS.

THE LEVI STRAUSS FOUNDATION

Preventing the Spread of HIV/AIDS
In 1985 the Levi Strauss Foundation became the first U.S. corporate foundation to address the HIV/AIDS epidemic, and has since contributed more than $37 million to HIV/AIDS services organizations in more than 40 countries. The foundation and company-supported programs seek to prevent the spread of HIV/AIDS among women and youth, specifically in communities with extreme need, scarce resources and where LS&CO. has a business presence. The Levi Strauss Foundation funds programs that:

Challenge the stigma and discrimination surrounding HIV/AIDS; Support disproportionately affected and underserved communities, e.g. by research activities that contribute to the development of strategies for HIV control; and Increase the availability of and access to clean syringes to prevent the spread of HIV through needle sharing.

On the left, behind that big smile, is Werner Van Gansbeke, Marketing Director for Levi's® Benelux and Norden countries. On the right side Professor Laga from the Institute of Tropical Medicine, Antwerp, easily measures up to his smile. Why? The Belgian Levi's Back Pocket Auction raised a staggering 13.020 euro for the fight against AIDS!

Aids fonds

The Aids Fonds has a mission: ‘working towards a world without AIDS’. This means that the Aids Fonds is active in both the Netherlands and abroad. We are there to help everyone living with or affected by HIV/AIDS.

The work done by the Aids Fonds is based on hard facts. We use scientific research and innovative methods to optimise the support, education and information we provide. And we believe that empowering people so they can act in their own interests is the way to achieve the most success. The Aids Fonds is always looking for initiatives that it can help to develop.

The main aim of the Aids Fonds is to ensure that everyone has access to prevention, treatment, care and support. At the same time, our funding for scientific research contributes to advances in the understanding of AIDS. And the Aids Fonds always takes the lead when there are fresh insights that could be the start of new and better options.
